Our pets have probably really enjoyed the past year or so, with many of us being at home during lockdowns and countless others now choosing to work from home as the norm. Our domestic pets have certainly benefited from the love and attention of the extra time with their owners.<\/p>\n

Knowing that you want the very best for your pet, we\u2019ve put together a few things to assist when considering installing a pet door in glass.<\/p>\n

Location matters<\/h2>\n

In choosing the location for your pet door you should consider that it will allow your pet access to a garden or backyard. Installing a pet door that opens on to a secure area and away from roads and street traffic is a great option for the safety of your pet.<\/p>\n

Keep security in mind<\/h2>\n

Pet doors can be viewed as possible entry points for burglars so we always advise they are installed in a spot that is not visible from the road or passers-by.<\/p>\n

Where can a pet door in glass be installed?<\/h2>\n

Pet doors are most suitable for installation into low-level glazed panels in a door or sidelight or a lowlight panel located on the perimeter of a room. They can also be installed on sliding doors, as long as appropriate consideration is given to allow for the passing gap when the doors are opened.<\/p>\n

What is involved in the installation?<\/h2>\n

At O'Brien\u00ae we only install pet doors into glass panels. We replace the entire glass panel using toughened glass where the pet door will be located. Toughened glass can be cut to fit the exact dimensions of your door and is more durable to withstand the constant flexing and knocking it will endure as a result of your pet coming and going. A pet door cannot be installed into the existing glass.<\/p>\n
